This spot on New Rochelle, NJ is great for large groups and kids. Service was a bit slow but the food was terrific. Great options for drinks: beer, tequila, and Micheladas. The places has an authentic Mexican feel to it thanks to itβs spectacular decor. Beautiful tribute to Dias Della Muertos. All the staff speak Spanish but can also speak English well. I had a mango sherbert for dessert which was unique for the tajin seasoning on it which I found to be strange but it didnβt spoil it. If youβre looking for quality Mexican food for your family, look no further.
Overview
Walking into El Asadero Mexican Grill Rochelle Park feels like stepping into a neighborhood spot that knows exactly what itβs doing. The location at 375 W Passaic St, Rochelle Park, NJ 07662, United States is easy to find, with steady foot traffic from locals who clearly treat this place as a regular stop rather than a once-in-a-while splurge. I first came here on a weeknight after work, expecting a quick bite, and ended up staying longer than planned because the food and pace encouraged you to slow down and enjoy the moment.
The menu leans confidently into classic Mexican grill favorites without overcomplicating things. Youβll see tacos, burritos, quesadillas, tortas, and grilled meats prepared to order, which makes a real difference in flavor and texture. Watching the kitchen work is part of the experience. Meats are seasoned simply, grilled at high heat, then rested before being sliced, a process many chefs recommend to keep juices locked in. According to culinary guidelines often cited by organizations like the Culinary Institute of America, proper resting can improve moisture retention by up to 10 percent, and you can taste that care here, especially in the carne asada.
On one visit, I ordered the asada tacos and a side of rice and beans, while a friend went for the chicken burrito. The tortillas were warm and pliable, the kind that hold together without stealing attention from the filling. The chicken had a smoky char that suggested it hadnβt just been reheated, and the rice was fluffy rather than dense. These are small details, but they add up, especially for diners who know what good Mexican food should taste like. Itβs the kind of place where you overhear people at nearby tables comparing notes on their favorite menu items, which says a lot.
Cleanliness and consistency matter just as much as flavor, and this grill checks those boxes. The CDC notes that restaurants with visible food prep areas often score higher in customer trust because transparency builds confidence. Here, counters are kept tidy, staff wear gloves, and orders move efficiently from grill to plate. While I canβt speak for every shift, my experiences across multiple visits have been consistently positive, and that reliability is a big reason locals keep coming back.
Reviews from the community echo that sentiment. Many online reviews highlight generous portions, fair pricing, and friendly service. One recurring theme is how the staff remembers repeat customers, which aligns with hospitality studies from Cornell University showing that personal recognition can increase customer satisfaction and return visits. I noticed this firsthand when a cashier remembered my usual order after just a couple of visits, a small gesture that made the experience feel personal rather than transactional.
Location-wise, Rochelle Park benefits from being close to major roads, and this spot fits well into the areaβs dining landscape. Whether youβre grabbing lunch between errands or sitting down for a casual dinner, the restaurant feels approachable. Thereβs no pressure to dress up or rush through your meal. The seating is straightforward, comfortable, and designed for real eating, not just photos.
That said, no place is perfect. During peak hours, especially weekends, wait times can stretch a bit, and parking may require patience. If youβre in a hurry, calling ahead or visiting during off-peak hours helps. Still, these minor inconveniences donβt overshadow the overall experience.
What stands out most is how naturally everything comes together, from the menu choices to the service rhythm. It doesnβt try to reinvent Mexican cuisine or follow trends; instead, it focuses on doing familiar things well. That grounded approach, backed by consistent execution and positive local reviews, makes this grill a dependable choice for anyone craving well-made Mexican food in Rochelle Park.

My husband and I have become quite the regulars at this location. Itβs on our way in from work and we tend to stop by often on nights cooking dinner is out of the question. The food is great as well as the vibes. A special shoutout to our server, Jose, who happens be our server often since we like to booth sections. He is always delivering the highest level of attention you can hope to get a restaurant. Thank you so much Jose !!! You deserve a raise @management . Donβt think about it give this restaurant a try.
Service was great, food was awesome too and the hospitality! Carlos and Maria helped celebrate my brotherβs birthday and we all hit it off well! They make you feel right at home and I highly recommend this place. 10/10 best food place you can try in Jersey!
Best atmosphere of any restaurant in New Jersey. Tons of fun. Great horses outside and saddles inside. Great service. Live music inside. Food was fresh and in large quantities. My only complaint was that it was a bit bland. There were many Gringos like myself there, as well as Mexican Americans dining. I assume that maybe they bland down some of the gringo food, like chicken fajitas, and the more traditional Mexican foods are more flavorful. It would be worth asking the waitstaff which are the more authentic dishes to order.
A very enjoyable purveyor for Mexican food. My first visit here, we had Broiled red Snapper, fish tacos and a shrimp burito. All were very tasty. Service is very good with no complaints. Ambiance is a fun atmosphere and plenty of photo-ops with props. Check it out!
